Library training

Training is available to all AFBI Library users in the form of the training programme outlined below. In addition, we can provide individual or small group training covering search strategies, using databases and Endnote. We can help you to set up current awareness email alerts to keep you up to date with published research in your field of interest. We also welcome any queries you may have on copyright, open access and metrics.

Introduction to Endnote

When: Thursday, 1st of June 9.30am - 11.30am
Where: Biometrics training room, Newforge

This introductory course will be taken by Deborah and Patrick from the AFBI Library and is suitable for beginners or for those who would like a refresher on Endnote basics. Course content includes:

  • Creating and backing up your Endnote library
  • Creating and importing new references
  • Organising your references
  • Using Cite-while-u-write in Word
  • Endnote Online

Customising Google Scholar

Did you know that Google scholar connects seamlessly with AFBI Library’s e-journals?  You can also export references to Endnote and more.  Come along to this session to find out to customise Google Scholar to suit your needs.

ResearchGate and Copyright


This session explores the copyright implications of uploading papers to ResearchGate.  Practical advice on checking publisher’s guidelines will be presented.  Useful for all AFBI staff who use ResearchGate.

PubMed v Medline


Although essentially the same resource, this session compares the PubMed and Medline databases and presents effective searching techniques for each.   Useful for staff who normally use PubMed, this session is a great introduction to all the useful features available via Medline on the Web of Science platform.

CAB Abstracts

 

CAB Abstracts is a key database offering users access to 8.5 million abstracts across agriculture, environment, veterinary sciences, applied economics, food science and nutrition.  Come along to this session to find out how to use CAB Abstracts to locate relevant journal articles, conference papers and reports.
